Collaborating with Hong Kong Customs to Strengthen Intellectual Property Protection

We are dedicated to safeguarding intellectual property in Hong Kong and beyond, working closely with key institutions to protect creators’ and rights holders’ interests. Recently, our Hong Kong office was invited by the Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau (IPIB) of the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department for a collaborative visit to deepen our partnership in intellectual property protection.

As members of the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Alliance (IPRPA) committee, we joined other members in touring the Indoor Firing Range and Exhibition Gallery at the Customs Headquarters. This visit offered valuable insights into the operational models and advanced technologies used by the Customs Department to combat intellectual property infringements, such as detecting counterfeit goods and unauthorized media distribution. These efforts highlight the vital role of enforcement in preserving the integrity of creative works.

The day concluded with a networking dinner hosted by the Commissioner of Customs and Excise at the Senior Officers’ Mess in the Customs Headquarters. During the dinner, we discussed strategies to enhance intellectual property enforcement, with a particular focus on public screenings of films and television programs. We reaffirmed our commitment to ensuring these activities comply with licensing requirements, protecting the rights of the film and television studios we represent and fostering a compliant environment.
